Mayflower to Launch with Quick Win Programmes
After nearly 4 months of planning and preparation for a social improvement programme in Lagos to be called “A Better Day in Lagos” the implementing entity the Mayflower Foundation is nearing launch.
Mayflower will be an independent Foundation that undertakes 5 major social initiatives initially in Ebute-Metta, Lagos. These 5 initiatives, in health care, education, empowerment, environment and community development, are targeted to directly and indirectly assist up to 400,000 people in Ebute-Metta.
Mayflower is to be funded by a group of corporate sponsors who will devote part of their CSR budgets to Mayflower. Initially Mayflower will launch with a small set of target sponsors and over time attract more sponsors into the foundation. To encourage broader participation Mayflower will target a number of health, environment and community development projects where it believes benefits can be seen very quickly – Quick Wins, if you will.
Mr Albert May, who is the managing partner of New Era Partners, says “ the way in which all stakeholders will come together in Mayflower so as to implement ‘A Better Day in Lagos’ is a first in Nigeria if not in Africa – we are delighted to have been able to put the programme together and look forwards to the coming years when we are certain many lives will be changed and even saved in Lagos”.
