There is always a role for enabling talented students to achieve more. Bursaries and scholarship programmes throughout secondary and tertiary education are a good way to motivate the best and brightest. In the past the tertiary sector has received limited attention and, therefore, greater assistance in this sector would be beneficial. It would also have the quickest Social Return on Investment (SROI).
Mayflower hopes to raise US$100,000 per annum for a period of 5 years to provide Bursaries and Scholarships programmes in Ebute-Metta. Per annum it is hoped that up to 100 students will benefit. It would be reasonable to expect that they would be able to earn more when leaving school, that skills shortages will, in time, be reduced and that their extra income will indirectly benefit many others.
