Individual elements of assistance such as improved teacher salaries or extra computers are not a sufficient intervention in educational systems. A whole school development (WSD) approach is required that considers governance, teacher training, curriculum, nutrition, clothing, basic health, text books and libraries, infrastructure and facilities. This may seem overwhelming for CSR but there are many opportunities for partnership with the public sector that can explored.
Mayflower hopes to raise US$400,000 per annum for a period of 5 years to provide Whole School Development programmes in Ebute-Metta. Per annum it is hoped that up to 1,000 teachers and educators will be impacted resulting in perhaps as many as 40,000 children receiving a better education.
