The bulk of Nigerians are in the agricultural sector. Even in central Lagos there is a significant livestock sector that provides affordable meat and milk to citizens. There is a need for best practices in breeding and raising of healthy and economic livestock. This programme would aim to assist with animal nutrition, care and basic veterinary services.
Mayflower hopes to raise US$200,000 per annum for a period of 5 years to provide Animal Husbandry programmes in Ebute-Metta. Per annum it is hoped that up to 500 livestock farmers will benefit. It would be reasonable to expect that they would be able to earn more for their livestock and as a consequence assist a broader family group. Of course, there are also the nutritional benefits of improved livestock rearing.
