There is a need to improve the remuneration, working conditions and prospects for healthcare workers so that the public sector at least partially competes with the private healthcare sector. Mayflower will implement a range of programmes from formal education to mentoring arrangements in general medicine. There will also be programmes to address specific skills shortages, for example maternal health and emergency room treatment.
Mayflower hopes to raise US$300,000 per annum for a period of 5 years to provide healthcare education, training and capacity building programmes in Ebute-Metta. Per annum it is hoped that 100 healthcare workers will be helped directly. With increased skills it is hoped each healthcare worker will be able to improve the health of at least 10 more members of the community.
